High Energy Physics

CERN has built the Large Hadron Collider, which is taking data at the end of this year. One of the experiments in it is ATLAS. The detectors in this experiment record millions of data points during collision events. Computer models are used to analyze the probable trajectories and decays and also anomalies from expected behavior. The ATLAS software stack that does these analysis has been in development for several years. FAS Scientists are using research computing resources to analyze the data and simulate new data to further refine the detectors built by them.
