Connection Instructions for Labs

 

Windows Systems

1.Right click on “My Computer” icon then click “Map Network Drive…”

2.Select an available drive letter (example Z: )

3.Enter Folder: \\server\share

a.Servers examples:

  • rcfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu
  • davisfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu

b.Shares are typically PI_Lab or department name examples:

  • Smith_Lab
  • MCBFinance

4. Click “Connect using different credentials”

5. Enter username: domain\username

  • a. domain = RC

6. Enter Password

7. Click Finish

Mac Systems

1.In finder press command+k or click the go Menu and select “Connect to server”

2. Enter: smb://domain;username@server/share

1. domain = RC

2. Servers examples:

  • rcfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu
  • davisfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu

Linux Desktop Systems

Click on Places Menu the select “Connect to Server”

Fill out the fields

1.Servers examples:

  • rcfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu
  • davisfs1.rc.fas.harvard.edu

2.Shares are typically PI_Lab or department name example:

  • Smith_Lab
  •  MCBFinance

3.Folder will be any subdirectory example:

  • /users/username
  • No subdirectory Example: /

4. Enter Domain name:

  • a. domain = RC

Command Line Method

mkdir /mnt/LabStorage mount -t cifs -o workgroup=domain,username=user //server/share /mnt/LabStorage 

VPN instructions

Note: VPN is required for users connecting to storage that are NOT on the Local Area Network (LAN) of the Division of Sciences (DOS) building. You must use the VPN if you are on Wifi or anywhere else outside the DOS area.

1. Download “VPN Client” at http://downloads.fas.harvard.edu/download

2. Install the VPN Client

3. Run “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client” click Select button

4. Enter username: FASUsername@fas

5. Enter your password
