Software that will work with SecurID fob:
- terminal on Mac OS X (although to display X11 windows you will need to run Apple X11)
- putty on Windows
Software that will NOT work with SecurID fob:
UPDATE: Please note that it is possible to use SecurCRT to connect to Odyssey using key fobs. We are grateful to our user Jacob J. Krich for correcting this. The instructions on how to use SecurCRT to connect to Odyssey can be found at the bottom of the page.
In order for windows to show up when connected to Odyssey you will need to make sure that your forward all X11 traffic over ssh.
- Mac OS X: On Apple OS X boxes you will need X11 to be able to run X windows programs on the cluster. Use the command:
ssh -Y odyssey.fas.harvard.edu
to make sure that X11 forwarding works.
- Windows: Go to the download page for the PuTTY software. Download the putty.exe and pscp.exe applications and place them in your desktop.Next go to the Xming page and download the Xmingapplication from the “Public Domain Release” section of the page. The current version is 126.96.36.199. When installing Xming choose the “Custom Installation” option and choose “Don’t install an SSH client” option. Otherwise choose defaults.Launch the Xming server. On Vista or Windows 7 you might need to allow Xming server to communicate to the internet.
Next, double click on putty.exe on your desktop to start it.
Enter odyssey.fas.harvard.edu in the field next to Hostname (or IP address).
Click the little “+” sign next to SSH on the left panel. Select the X11 section. On right panel following selecting X11, select “Enable X11 forwarding”.
On the security alert, click yes to accept Odyssey’s key. On the login as: prompt type your Odyssey username. Then at the password type your odyssey password. At the “Verification Code:” prompt type in your 6 digit Openauth token. You should now be logged into Odyssey.
To connect to Odyssey using SecurCRT do not use the Wizard to add a new connection. On the SSH tab select only Keyboard Interactive as in the image below.
Then (optionally) select X11 forwarding.
Login using your username, password and PASSCODE entries.
At this point you should be connected to Odyssey.
